March 13, 2013­– Deaths from poisoning have been on the rise in the United States in the past few years, surpassing motor vehicle accidents as the leading cause of accidental injury death, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally, poisoning is the leading cause of hospitalization due to accidental injury in Oregon.

March 13, 2013 – Today the Mayor and City Commissioners of Portland, Oregon voted unanimously (5 to 0) to implement an earned sick time policy that will enable people who work in the city to earn sick time while they work, making Portland the 4th U.S. city to enact such a policy.

March 13, 2013 — Today, the Oregon Senate took a step to protect children’s health by clearing the air in cars and trucks. Senate Bill 444A, which passed on a bipartisan 19-10 vote, makes smoking in a motor vehicle with a driver or passenger under 18 a traffic violation.
