October 18, 2012 -- Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) announced today that three new members have joined the organization’s Board of directors.
The new members are Kurt Barker, partner at Karnopp Petersen LLP; Tanya Hayden, vice president Bend Research; and Dan Stevens, senior vice president of PacificSource Health Plans.
Kurt Barker has worked for VIM as an attorney for several years since moving to Bend from Portland in 2008. Prior to moving to Bend, Barker practiced labor and employment law with Stoel Rives LLP in Portland, where he focused his practice in employment related issues. He currently serves as the Chair of Karnopp Petersen’s employment law department, where his practice continues to emphasize the defense and counsel of clients in employment matters. “It’s hard not to be inspired by the practitioners I’ve met who love their work at VIM, and by the stories of success that can be found here,” Barker said. He is also involved with numerous other organizations, including the Human Resources Association of Central Oregon (HRACO), the Deschutes County Bar Association, and the Society of Human Resources Management.
Tanya Hayden is a vice president and member of the management team at Bend Research where she is responsible for design and implementation of project management initiatives. A Bend native, she looks to put her experience in strategic plan development and fundraising to use at VIM. “VIM is an exceptional non-profit, focused on the community I grew up in, and offers nice parallels to the purpose of my profession,” said Hayden. “It will be a pleasure to serve the community through VIM.”
Dan Stevens relocated to Central Oregon in 2010 after serving for 20 years in various healthcare leadership roles in the Portland area. He is Senior VP with PacificSource Health Plans, and the Chief Operating Officer of PacificSource Community Health Plans, which houses the company’s Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. Stevens adds years of experience working within the nonprofit medical sector to the VIM Board of directors. “I have a passion for improving the health of our population in Central Oregon,” said Stevens, “and would love to help VIM take its efforts even further.” Stevens is a member of the Board of several other organizations, including the Central Oregon Health Council and United Way of Deschutes County.
