The Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers (OCHCP) Announces New Executive Director

April 10, 2013

April 10, 2013 — Daniel Mitten was just appointed the new Executive Director for the Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers (OCHCP) beginning the role on April 3, 2013.   An Arizona native, Dan and his wife relocated to Portland, Oregon in November, 2012. They both fell in love with the state six years ago on a white-water rafting trip down the Rogue River and came back multiple times a year until they both decided to take a leap of faith and begin new careers and a new life in the Pacific Northwest.   Dan’s career began in Arizona with the Maricopa County Medical Society – a voluntary association of physicians – almost 25 years ago in the mailroom of MCMS’ sister-organization, Arizona Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) – a managed care organization.  Dan worked his way up through the ranks, holding  positions such Assistant Director of Information Services for the Greater Arizona Central Credentialing Program, a subsidiary of MCMS; Managing Editor of Round-up magazine; Associate Executive Director of the MCMS; and Director of Operations for AFMC.     Ultimately, he was promoted and achieved the rank of Executive Director/CEO of the Maricopa County Medical Society and Medical Society Businesses Services. Concurrently, he also served as Senior Director of Operations for the Arizona Foundation for Medical Care. The ascension from mailroom to Board room in 22 years is one of his proudest achievements. A graduate of Arizona State University, Dan holds a B.S.  degree in Management.     A special thanks to Barbara Prowe, OCHCP’s Executive Director for the past eight years.  Her tireless efforts in support of health and wellness in the public and private employer sectors greatly benefited OCHCP members.  The OCHCP Board and staff appreciate Barbara’s dedication as a thought leader propelling the organization throughout her tenure, and wish her well.     The Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers’ Mission is to use the collective voice of purchasers to drive toward a high value health care system; to improve purchasers’ ability to contract for high quality and cost-effective health care for their employees/members; and to help purchasers steer their  employees/members toward optimal health.
