March 4, 2013 – Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries (NPNM) is being recognized this Wednesday, March 6 at a White House gathering of faith-based and neighborhood organizations working to improve the health of children and families across the nation.
NPNM Executive Director Rev. Dr. Deborah Patterson will represent Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries at a convening of faith-based and community leaders with senior staff from the White House, the Departments of Health and Human Services, and the USDA.
The purpose of the gathering is to celebrate the extraordinary efforts and the innovative programs of faith-based and neighborhood organizations that offer opportunities for communities to make healthier choices, provide access to healthy, affordable food and encourage increased physical activity.
Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries partners with diverse groups across the region, to support the work of Faith Community Nurses (FCNs) who are RNs with additional coursework in this specialty practice. FCNs provide health education, health counseling, health navigation and patient advocacy, along with developing wellness and exercise support groups, training volunteers and helping people find and access needed healthcare resources.
In the 20 years since its founding, NPNM has equipped more than 2400 registered nurses to serve in this capacity in an eight-state region.
