January 29, 2013 – Legacy Health System today announced its continued commitment to Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries, which it helped to create two decades earlier, with a pledge of $15,000 through FY 2014. This funding will be used to support the growth of Faith Community Nursing and congregational health ministries through offering classes, monthly continuing education meetings, and developing resources and mentoring support for the health professionals who serve in this capacity throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
Faith Community Nurses are registered nurses with additional coursework in this specialty practice and ministry. They provide health education, health counseling, health navigation and patient advocacy, along with developing support groups and helping people find and access needed healthcare resources. They provide these services do through faith-based community settings, and nearly all of their services are free-of-charge.
Legacy Health is a non-profit integrated healthcare service delivery system with six hospitals in the Portland metro area, along with a number of affiliated programs and services, including home health care and hospice.
