Kevin Talbert (D-Ashland) was appointed to the Senate District 3 seat by Jackson County Commissioners in a special meeting Tuesday morning. He replaces Senator Alan Bates who died suddenly Aug. 5.
“Kevin Talbert’s willingness to serve under these difficult circumstances is a testament to his character. He has a long record of public service. It is part of who he is. I welcome him to the Senate,” Courtney said.
Talbert is retired from Southern Oregon University, where he was Director of Extended Campus Programs and Chief Information Officer.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota; a Masters in college student personnel from University of Wisconsin – La Crosse; and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Northern Colorado. He also received a certificate of management of lifelong education from Harvard University.
Courtney said officials will work with Talbert to schedule a swearing-in ceremony in the near future.
