PORTLAND/BEAVERTON, Ore. (Sept. 29, 2015) – The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, the nation’s largest nonprofit addiction treatment provider, is pleased to announce its free “Recovery Speaker Series.”
The series is open to everyone interested in recovery from addiction, and topics include “The Foundations of Twelve Step Recovery,” “Managing Acute Pain for Recovering Persons” and “Shame and Addiction.” To make it convenient for all to attend, each topic will be presented in both Portland and Beaverton.
In Portland, the series takes place on the first Tuesday of the month at Laurelhurst Village, 3060 S.E. Stark St.
In Beaverton, the series takes place on the third Thursday of the month at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s outpatient center in Beaverton, 1500 N.W. Bethany Blvd., #240.

The Foundations of Twelve Step Recovery. Joe Galligan, a board member of Renewal House Northwest will examine the history of the Twelve Steps and how they have evolved over time, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Portland (Laurelhurst Village, 3060 S.E. Stark St.) and on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Beaverton (1500 N.W. Bethany Blvd., #240).
Managing Acute Pain for Recovering Persons. Lynn Emmons, an addictions counselor at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s Springbrook residential campus in Newberg, will discuss ways to manage acute pain – from root canals to surgeries and broken bones – while maintaining recovery, on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in Portland (Laurelhurst Village, 3060 S.E. Stark St.) and on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in Beaverton (1500 N.W. Bethany Blvd., #240).
Shame and Addiction. Tim Craley, a primary therapist at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s Springbrook residential campus in Newberg, will discuss how understanding shame can help those in recovery move into self-acceptance and healing, on Tuesday, Dec.
1 at 7 p.m. in Portland (Laurelhurst Village, 3060 S.E. Stark St.) and Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. in Beaverton (1500 N.W. Bethany Blvd., #240).
