Grand Opening for Affordable, Supported Housing in Lair Hill, July 11, 2017

July 12, 2017

PORTLAND, OR: Central City Concern (CCC), Portland's non-profit serving people impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions since 1979, opened a new, 39-unit housing building on July 11. Portland City Mayor Ted Wheeler, Commissioner Dan Saltzman and Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury spoke at the grand opening celebration.

Hill Park Apartments is an apartment building in Portland's Lair Hill neighborhood that will include supportive services for the residents of eight units that will be home to people living with mental illness.

"Hill Park Apartments is a great example of community partners working together to fill a need," says CCC Chief Housing and Employment Officer Sean Hubert. "We want to serve people with low incomes who work and live in the neighborhoods where we build."

Hill Park Apartments has 39 units: 17 studio and 22 one-bedroom. It's a three-story building on the edge of Portland's SW downtown area, close to transportation, parks and shopping. The apartments are spacious with ceiling fans and natural wood accents. The Earth Advantage-certified building is energy efficient with solar panels.

The eight residents who are managing mental illness will receive appropriate support from CCC's housing staff and behavioral health staff. These residents are engaged with Central City Concern's outpatient behavioral health program--the Old Town Recovery Center--where they receive many services and will have access to CCC's proven integrated care models. They will also be empowered and supported in carving their path to self-sufficiency.

Hill Park Apartments' major contributors include US Bank, Portland Housing Bureau, Oregon Housing and Community Services, Oregon Health Authority, Home Forward and Providence Health & Services.

Architect is Carleton Hart Architecture and general contractor is Colas Construction, Inc. Total project cost is $10.8 million.
