September 30 marks the last day that Congress can vote to stop the federal de-funding of community health centers like Virginia Garcia. If they fail to address this issue, more than 9 million patients nationwide will lose their coverage. 70% of the federal budget through HRSA will go away.
Virginia Garcia stands to see a reduction by more than $5.3M. This would impact programs like diabetes support, clinical pharmacy, adult dental as well as basic medical services to over 4,000 patients. In Oregon, this cut would impact over 222,000 medicaid beneficiaries - which is 60% of all patients served by health centers in the state.
This issue needs a champion. Right now NOT ONE congressional member has stepped up to champion a plan to save our community health centers. We need to put the pressure on our own representatives in Congress to stand up and speak for the people they represent.
