OREGON CITY – Clackamas Community College’s nursing program has long been a sought-after program for those aspiring to enter the health care field. This year, the program is garnering more recognition.
To get their licenses, nursing students must take and pass the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination), which is a nationwide test for nurses in the United States. Since 2007, CCC’s pass rate has been in the 90th percentile and growing. For 2015-17, 100 percent of Clackamas Community College nursing students passed the exam. Clackamas is the only Oregon nursing program with a 100 percent pass rate.
“I’m so proud of this accomplishment,” CCC Nursing Program Administrator Carol Dodson said. “Our faculty are dedicated to encouraging, supporting and helping our students to be successful in the program and in passing NCLEX. However, the accolades should really be for the students, who juggle class, clinical, jobs and families in order to complete the program.”
Also, RegisteredNursing.org has ranked the college’s nursing program as the best in Oregon. Programs were assessed on several factors, including how well a program supports students toward licensure. It also analyzed past and present NCLEX-RN pass rates.
“This is a huge testament to not only our hardworking students, but to the faculty for their efforts in facilitating student learning and building their acumen, passion and confidence,” Jarett Gilbert, associate dean of technology, applied science and public service, said.
Nursing students at CCC learn relevant and prevalent health needs of our population, including health promotion, chronic illness management, care of the acutely ill and end-of-life care. As part of a consortium, the Clackamas Community College nursing program has joined with 10 other Oregon community college programs and all campuses of the Oregon Health & Science University in a unique, unified approach to nursing education.
Upon completion of the CCC nursing program, students are eligible to receive their associate of applied science degree in nursing and take the national examination (NCLEX-RN) for registered nurse licensure. Graduates of the nursing program at Clackamas Community College are prepared for entry-level employment as a registered nurse. Clackamas Community College nursing students are co-admitted to OHSU to facilitate an easy transition to complete their baccalaureate with a focus in nursing.
