The Council for Affordable Health Coverage released the following statement on today's Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing drug pricing policy proposals.
"The Council for Affordable Health Coverage welcomes the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing to the dialogue on advancing value-based arrangements for prescription drugs. CAHC believes it is important to reform federal and state policies that prevent health plans and drug manufacturers from agreeing to base payment on the value a drug delivers.
No drug manufacturer is a part of the Campaign, however, because almost everything else in the Campaign’s proposed reforms are poison pills. While we are encouraged that the Campaign has advanced the value-based discussion, we are concerned it is part of a broader political agenda to demonize an industry rather than a sincere attempt to find plausible and passable reforms to ensure patient access to innovative therapies that they and the system can afford. CAHC is committed to advancing value in the health system, and is working with all sides to support value based payment reform.
No solution will be sustainable or feasible without buy in from all major players -- manufacturers, payers, providers, and patients."
