October 22, 2012 – The non-profit Artz Center for Developmental Health and Audiology has changed its name to Children’s Developmental Health Institute (“Children’s”) to more appropriately reflect its significant focus on children with complex developmental/behavior issues.

At Children’s, families find a ‘Developmental Home,’ where professionals from a variety of disciplines come together to support and help children reach their full potential. Children’s developmental health services include:

  • Developmental Behavior Pediatrics

  • Speech-Language Pathology

  • Pediatric Occupational Therapy

  • Pediatric Audiology

  • Feeding Therapy

  • Language & Literacy

The newly named entity will also continue to provide high-quality audiology services to its adult clients under a new operating unit called the Hearing Institute (www.hearingpdx.com). At the Hearing Institute, highly trained audiologists care for all aspects of hearing evaluation and life-long management.

While changing the organizational name to better align the organization with the services it provides, Children’s will continue to honor long-time benefactors by also renaming its clinic in SW Portland “The Artz Center” in memory of Frederick (Jack) & Jane Artz – wonderful friends and generous benefactors who helped grow the organization with their generosity.

As the community faces a growing epidemic of struggling children, Children’s provides hope and possibility to hundreds of children each year. The clinical team has grown dramatically in the past two years to approximately 50 staff (from 30) and the numbers of clinical hours have doubled in one year to roughly 2,500 hours of service provided each month.

Families come to Children’s with all kinds of social, emotional, developmental, sensory and communication issues, including attention deficit, autism spectrum, speech and language delays, hearing issues, and behavioral challenges. At Children’s, they find a team of experts in children’s developmental health, all in a single location, collaborating closely to ensure that each child gets the right care at the right time. The approach is based on state-of-the-art research showing that strong relationships actually help children develop healthy, resilient brains.

In a rapidly changing environment, non-profit organizations are ever vigilant toward staying relevant and true to the mission that defines their work in a way that is sustainable. Children’s innovative clinical approach coupled with their work to improve the standard of developmental health for all children in Oregon has placed them in a solidly growing market niche.

Children’s has numerous families who would welcome a chance to tell their story of the impact of its innovative solutions.  For more information please visit our newly redesigned website at www.childrenspdx.org.
