American Cancer Society Portland Hope Ball and Polo Classic

Directors Mortgage presents ninth annual fundraiser to benefit cancer research, education and support programs; hopes to raise over $500,000
August 23, 2016

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 18, 2016) – Pull out that big hat and get dressed in your finest garden party attire, and celebrate the American Cancer Society’s ninth annual Portland Hope Ball and Polo Classic Saturday, August 20th at Hidden Creek Polo Club.

The Portland Hope Ball and Polo Classic is bringing something new to the American Cancer Society Portland market; Polo with a Purpose. For the first time ever, this signature Portland fundraising gala is combining the sport of kings with the beauty of its elegant and impactful fundraiser.

Event Chair, Gretchen Keys, has worked tirelessly to create the vision for this 600 person sold out event. The day will begin with a world-class polo match where attendees will watch from a picturesque vantage point atop the viewing ridge. Guests will enjoy bidding on fantastic silent auction items, watching the parade of horses, half-time divot stomp, “best hat” contest, and tasting yummy bites from some of Portland’s best food carts. The evening will conclude with a live auction and dinner under the stars in our gala tent where guests will delight in gourmet food and delicious dessert, fine wines and specialty cocktails. Most importantly, funds raised will support cancer research, education, patient services and lifesaving research.

For the third year in a row, Directors Mortgage has taken the lead in this gala’s fundraising efforts by committing to be the Presenting Sponsor for the event. “We have all been touched in some way by the presence of cancer in our lives which is why Directors Mortgage feels so strongly about partnering with such a powerful organization,” states Kevin Hanna, President.

“The American Cancer Society is making a difference globally and right here in Portland,” said Lisa Bergeson, Distinguished Events Director for the American Cancer Society. “Last year’s Hope Ball raised $415,000. We’re hoping to top that this year and enhance the impact our organization makes with cancer research, education and support programs.”

One of the key initiatives supported by the funds that will be raised at this year’s Hope Ball is the 80% by 2018 Colon Cancer Screening Initiative. The “80% by 2018” is a National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable initiative in which hundreds of organizations have committed to substantially reducing colorectal cancer as a major public health problem for those 50 and older. These organizations are working toward the shared goal of 80% of adults aged 50 and older being regularly screened for colorectal cancer by 2018. Dollars raised during the paddle raise will go toward funding local programs that will provide screenings and information on preventative measures to patients.
