Oregon Health Policy Board to Hear Quarterly Report via Webinar Thursday

House Votes to Renew Hospital and Long Term Care Assessments for Critical Services

May 14, 2013 - On a bipartisan vote, the Oregon House of Representatives today passed HB 2216-B to continue existing hospital and long term care assessments to fund critical health care services.  The House voted 54-5, with one excused, to renew programs that will leverage federal funds to devote $2 billion to health care and services for seniors and people with disabilities. The bill is the result of an agreement reached with hospitals and long term care providers at the beginning of the 2013 legislative session. Read More >>

Oregon Primary Care Association Honors Local Health Center Professionals

  May 14, 2013 – The Oregon Primary Care Association (OPCA) has recognized four health professionals who work in Multnomah County in its annual Health Center Leadership awards program.  OPCA’s awards honor Oregonians who contribute to the success of the state’s network of community health centers. Oregon's Medicaid Lottery: A Participant's View

  May 13, 2013 -- A study of Oregonians who won a 2008 state lottery to get Medicaid benefits has sparked an intense debate about the value of expanding health care to the poor and about the benefits of health insurance in general. The researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine last week that those who gained Medicaid coverage used more health services than low-income residents who had not been accepted into the program. But the Medicaid enrollees did not show significantly better blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels than the other group, although they had lower rates of depression.

Five Oregon Medical and PA Students Receive Scholarships at OMA Event

 
May 9, 2013 -- The Oregon Medical Association and its members hosted the second annual Party in the Pearl in Portland on April 19 for one purpose: to award $20,000 from the OMA Medical Scholarship Fund to medical and PA students. One student from each of the Oregon’s four medical and physician assistant programs was awarded a $4,000 scholarship, along with a fifth ‘wild card’ scholarship winner.

$2,854,885 Available to Oregon Health Centers to Help Uninsured Individuals Gain Affordable Health Insurance Coverage

Health care law provides $150 million for enrollment assistance by health centers nationwide
  May 9, 2013 -- Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced new funds to help more uninsured Americans enroll in affordable health insurance coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act.
