Governor Kitzhaber Issues Call for Nominations for Health Care Work Group
June 7, 2012--(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber issued a call today for nominations for participants to help improve health care delivery while reducing medical errors. With the passage of historic health care legislation in 2012, Oregon is quickly moving forward to improve care under the Oregon Health Plan, and its continued success requires strong public participation.
The Patient Safety and Defensive Medicine Work Group will help to ensure that the state's medical liability system fits within our shared vision of health system transformation. As required by SB 1580, the work group shall recommend legislation to be introduced in the 2013 regular session of the Legislative Assembly. The work group shall prioritize legislation that:
- Improves patient safety;
- More effectively compensates individuals who are injured as a result of medical errors; and
- Reduces the collateral costs associated with the medical liability system, including the costs associated with insurance administration, litigation and defensive medicine.
