Job Description:

  1. PRIMARY PURPOSE 

The Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for building an alliance with clients by providing education, motivation to support them in making positive changes in their lives, and reducing the negative consequences associated with substance use and abuse.

 

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Provides client centered care utilizing evidence-based and trauma informed services.
  • Uses motivational interviewing techniques to establish therapeutic rapport and facilitate active engagement in services.
  • Conducts assessment interviews using the ASAM and DSM-5.
  • Works collaboratively with other providers to ensure services are seamless.
  • Provides evidence based therapeutic interventions to address identified treatment and recovery goals.
  • Facilitates evidenced based groups.
  • Conducts individual counseling sessions.
  • Types and maintains timely and accurate documentation including group notes, individual notes, status reports, as well as documenting other contacts made concerning the client.
  • Monitors random urinalysis testing.
  • Completes monthly status reports for all clients on caseload and facilitates sending them to providers involved with client’s care. 

 

  1. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates and maintains a working relationship with all referral sources.
  • Attends staff meetings and works as a member of a multidisciplinary team to identify and implement quality services.

 

  1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 
  2. Experience, Education and Credentials
  • Associates Degree or higher in Human Services or a combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.  
  • Must have at least three years of drug and alcohol addiction counseling experience.
  • Must have a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-I) Certification or higher.

 

 

 

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer and time management skills.
  • Advanced understanding of ASAM PPC-2R and DSM-5.
  • An intermediate understanding of Oregon Administrative Rules is preferred.
  1. Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated.

 

  1. WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  1. PHYSICAL DEMAND 

Keying and typing.  Lifting less than 1 lb.: 40-70%; between 5 and 60 lbs:  less than 15% of time.  The effort reflected is typically applied in the following work positions:  Sitting, standing, and walking.

 

  1. MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND 

Continuous mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness.

 

  1.  ENVIRONMENT 

Work is typically performed under reasonably good working conditions. Some positions do operate in an active medical clinic setting.

 

6.   SCHEDULING:

Programs are residential and or outpatient and may have 24-hour staffing schedules.  The position may require availability to work a varied schedule, which could include days, mid shifts, evenings and/or weekends and holidays.  The position’s schedule will set by the individual program with occasional adjustments for staffing.

 

7.  ATTENDANCE:

     Compliance with general company standards is acceptable.

9.  FLSA STATUS:  

    NON-EXEMPT (eligible for overtime pay)
